Faces Of Homelessness: Bringing Our Neighbors Home For Good
The “Faces Of Homelessness” art exhibit features original oil portraits created by psychotherapist and artist Dr. Stuart Perlman, depicting people in our community experiencing homelessness. Thanks to a partnership with ArcLight Cinemas, the exhibit will tour through all four theatre locations. It will provide patrons of each location the opportunity to learn about the issue of homelessness in LA, and the ability to connect with Home For Good in order to become part of the solution to ending homelessness.
The Artist
Stuart Perlman has been a psychologist and psychoanalyst in private practice in West Los Angeles for over 30 years. He received his Ph.D. from UCLA in Clinical Psychology and a second Ph.D. from the Southern California Psychoanalytic Institute.
He has devoted thousands of hours to painting the experiences of the homeless. Stuart chose portraiture, a style traditionally used to immortalize the rich, famous and powerful, to remind us that these individuals, also, are to be valued: “If we can see the faces of the homeless and learn their stories - their hopes, dreams, accomplishments and fears - we can no longer pretend that they do not exist…we can no longer look the other way.”

Home For Good
With over 44,000 people living on our streets each night, the issue of homelessness impacts all of our communities and lives. Though it is a sizable issue, there is a solution! In 2010, United Way of Greater Los Angeles and the LA Area Chamber of Commerce created an action plan, called Home For Good, to end chronic and veteran homelessness by 2016. Since then, we have brought together community stakeholders, funders, political leaders, and the public, to coordinate existing resources and create systems of change in order to move people off the streets and into housing. Home For Good partners have housed over 23,000 people since we began and have worked together in a way never previously seen in LA towards the ultimate goal of ending homelessness in LA.
